Hi,I joined in May 1986 having been interviewed by the lovely Leonie Lonton and was based in Camberwell so I guess I was early era (yes pre- FOG Pete Smith!). I saw many changes over the decades, the 75th celebrations, the big MOVE to Farringdon and the transition to SCI! I worked in the Finance Department and in the finance team within Global (Overseas) Programmes but always based in HQ. I left in 2014 although I did return for a short stint in 2015.
Deirdre
Hello Deirdre, nice to see you here
21st November 2018 at 20:11 #19177Bonjour à tous
. OK OK, I’ll continue in English… Happy to participate to this big family reunion.About my time with SCUK… Georges Pereira was crazy enough to recruit and send the young unexperienced French I was at that time to DRC few years ago (in 2008 more exactly). This had been one of the most inspiring experience and it shaped my following career path in many ways. The team in DRC was just great and totally committed. The names of so many great people comes to my mind when I think about we went through. It was also the time of the SC Alliance creation and we were engaged actively in the process. Still today, I consider SC as a great organisation which brings a lot of positive vibes to this somehow difficult world. It’s made of great people that I admire a lot. I quit 7 years ago to come back to my home country, raise our kids and bring a little bit of what I learnt with SC people to my newly renamed organisation, Humanity and Inclusion.
As lots of my DRC colleagues used to say, SC is a great place to learn. I totally agree and I would add that it’s also a great place to have a real and lasting impact.
And by the way, thanks for the initiative of this alumni site and don’t forget… Be the change you want to see in the world.
24th November 2018 at 13:58 #19178Hi everyone!
Just plucking up courage to make my first post. Great to see some posts already here from friends I have worked with and admire, and to be reminded of the good old days, which in fact lasted about 18 years! I am now consulting, mostly for Brussels Bandits on EU-funded technical assistance projects. Living in France with Nicole (a match made by Save the Children back in 1987) and the kids are here too, though they have more or less left home. We are all applying for French nationality, provoked by Brexit, but it is OK we can still be British too so I hope we can get back to the UK for any SC events whatever the final Brexit agreement.
That’s it for now. Currently in Liberia and looking forward to being home for Christmas.
Best wishes to all.
25th November 2018 at 08:38 #19180Good to hear from my old friend Bill Tod. I was only in Save the Children for four years (2001-2005) but it was a fantastic time. I stayed in the child protection sector but after finally getting my PhD I’ve moved into academia and have recently become a lecturer on human rights at Mahidol University, Thailand. Best wishes to one and all. Cheers, Mark.
25th November 2018 at 15:18 #19181Hello everyone, it is great to join the group. I am presently a Senior Health Advisor with the UNICEF Regional Office, based in Nairobi, Kenya. I was the Head of Health and HIV 2012-2014. Season greetings to all.

27th November 2018 at 21:13 #19185hi All, I joined SCF in 1990 working in finance, income accounts, started as a temp with Reed, was interviewed by Lucy Maxwell for a full time role and got the job. 12th December 2018 at 21:05 #19192Hallo all!
So I first joined Save the Children in 1997 and worked in the Camberwell Finance team for about a year. I also worked in the China country office freelance for a bit in 2004 doing some finance training.
I’ve worked for Save the Children Australia in Cambodia and later for Save the Children International in Cambodia and Albania doing country management roles. Currently in the centre (London) office in the Supply Chain team
I’ve also met many colleagues from SCUK and SCI and other members while facilitating on the LDP and SMDP courses in UK and Middle East
I am a lifelong Save the Children employee I guess!
The tradition is continued as my daughter is now on the Save the Children committee at University in St Andrews, Scotland and helps fundraise for our work both at home and overseas!
Lovely to be part of this group
Looking forward to getting in touch with old (and new) colleagues
Helen22nd December 2018 at 19:31 #19195Hello all
I was with Save the Children UK from 1996 to 2009 and it’s lovely to see familiar names on the site. A huge thankyou to Pete, Mike, Leonie and all the others who have obviously put a lot of time and effort into making this work for all of us.
Since Save the Children I have very much enjoyed working for smaller charities, lecturing and being a Trustee. Recently we have moved out of London, to West Oxfordshire and started to retire though I am keeping the lecturing going.
Wishing you all a very Happy Christmas
Nick
22nd December 2018 at 19:41 #19196Hi Steve
Great to hear your name again – we worked together during your final months with Save the Children and I think David Brookes was the other member of the team at that time – oh yes and I remember the Kerfield……………..
good wishes

Great to hear from you Nick. Do post from time to time. It’s surprising quiet on these boards. i think when just a few people start it will take off.
28th December 2018 at 16:23 #19198Hi all,
I worked in Corporate Fundraising, 1995-2000. While on maternity leave from Save the Children, I started writing a biography of Eglantyne Jebb. ‘The Woman Who Saved the Children’ won the Daily Mail Biographers Club Prize and has so far been translated into Korean and Spanish. All author royalties are donated to Save the Children, raising over £10k to date. I am delighted that the book will be republished next year with a new cover to mark the Fund’s centenary. It is already listed on Amazon, and should be in book shops from April, so please do take a look, and ask for a copy if your local shop or library doesn’t already stock it!
My two subsequent books, ‘The Spy Who Loved’ and ‘The Women Who Flew for Hitler’, explore the experiences of Britain’s first female special agent in WW2, and the only two women to serve as test pilots for the Third Reich.
I am looking forward to supporting the Fund’s centenary in a variety of ways next year, and hope to meet some of you then.
All best, Clare
6th January 2019 at 14:11 #19200Hello to former colleagues. Great to see this forum up and running and gaining momentum! I worked at the Farringdon office for almost 4 years as HR Director for the UK and then moved to SCI to take up a global HR role, based at the centre office in Orange Street. Having just completed 7 years there, I’m about to move to a new position as Global HR Director with Relief International. While excited about the change, I know I will miss the Save the Children world, so the creation of the alumni Association comes at just the right time for me, providing a way to stay in touch and engaged. Thank you to the team who made this happen – you have done a brilliant job! Thanks
