Protecting Lives and Dignity: Winterization Relief Reaches Vulnerable Rural Communities in Mykolaiv Oblast

In frontline villages across Mykolaiv Oblast, destroyed energy infrastructure and soaring commercial fuel prices have left vulnerable families facing severe winter cold without heating. To prevent a life-threatening crisis, Acted is delivering emergency solid fuel directly to low-income households and elderly residents. By providing free firewood to isolated communities cut off from affordable heating, this intervention protects conflict-affected populations from freezing temperatures, eliminates dangerous survival tactics like foraging in mined fields, and ensures families can endure the winter in safety and warmth. As one elderly resident noted, "Life before conflict was completely different, but now even going out for basic errands makes you worry about what might fly overhead." This emergency winterization effort addresses acute heating shortages across rural areas in Mykolaiv Oblast, where central heating is non-existent and power grids remain severely damaged. By kicking off distributions early this year, Acted stayed ahead of the harsh weather, getting supplies delivered before autumn rains and mud could wash out impassable rural roads. Delivering metric tons of quality firewood directly to households cut off from affordable fuel markets meets immediate survival needs while shielding low-income families from devastating financial stress. To date, these solid fuel distributions have reached thousands of vulnerable individuals across southern Ukraine, keeping homes safe, warm, and resilient throughout the coldest months of the year.
