Flight lands in Kathmandu carrying vital humanitarian supplies for children and families affected by Nepal floods

KATHMANDU, 4 September 2026 – A flight carrying 84 metric tonnes of critical humanitarian supplies landed in Kathmandu, Nepal this morning, with the support of the European Union Humanitarian Aid. UNICEF is dispatching the supplies to bring urgently needed assistance for children and families affected by the devastating flash floods in the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli river basin. As humanitarian needs continue to rise, thousands of children and families require urgent support across the affected districts. Many families have lost homes, belongings, access to safe water and sanitation, while damage to schools, health facilities and essential infrastructure continues to disrupt children's lives. The European Union supported flight departed from UNICEF’s global supply and logistics hub in Copenhagen carryingemergency supplies to support hundreds of thousands of people. Lifesaving cargo included acute watery diarrhoea (AWD) kits and diagnostic equipment; water tanks, hygiene kits and water treatment supplies; tents; winter clothing kits for infants and children, and learning materials. "These supplies are arriving at a critical moment for children and families affected by the floods," said Alice Akunga, UNICEF Representative in Nepal. "Thousands of children have seen their lives turned upside down in a matter of minutes. Many have lost their homes, their classrooms, and their sense of normalcy.
